About IAMD

IAMD exists as a result of efforts and endeavours made by not only our core team, but countless physiotherapists, volunteers, doctors, donors and sponsors.

In 1992, three individuals having Muscular Dystrophy along with a few social workers started Indian Association of Muscular Dystrophy (IAMD) to provide relief and rehabilitation to the people afflicted with Muscular Dystrophy in India and also to create public awareness.

From its grass root beginnings, IAMD was registered in 1995 with its headquarters at Solan, Himachal Pradesh. Since establishment, IAMD has undertaken numerous endeavours to improve lives of families with Muscular Dystrophy:

  • Organising medical awareness Camps throughout India
  • Running Physiotherapy centres
  • Organising residential rehabilitation Camps
  • Facilitating Care Giver Support
  • Facilitation Wheel Chair Support
  • Running a comprehensive rehabilitation centre IMDRC in Solan, Himachal Pradesh
  • Facilitating diagnostic and DNA testing
  • Raising awareness amongst volunteers
  • Facilitating Financial Assistance
  • Providing up to date information about ongoing research etc.
  • Networking with the state as well as central government
  • Running a physiotherapy centre in New Delhi

IAMD Centres

Integrated Muscular Dystrophy Rehabilitation Center (IMDRC) – Manav Mandir

Integrated Muscular Dystrophy Rehabilitation Center – “Manav Mandir”, run by IAMD in Solan, Himachal Pradesh is transforming lives of Muscular Dystrophy and other neuromuscular disorder patients with its complete care and management.

It provides best residential care, Physiotherapy, Hydrotherapy, Yoga / Pranayam, Meditation, Recreation and orientation, Genetic testing, Psychological counselling, etc. under one roof.

Situated in the lap of Himalayas – the centre is scenic, climatically comfortable and spacious for a comfortable stay.

The entire building is wheelchair accessible. The centre has good connectivity to the town/shops, yet is located in a peaceful and tranquil location.

“Rahat” Delhi

Established since April 2014, Indian Association of Muscular Dystrophy runs regular physiotherapy and counselling at our ‘Rahat’ centre, 196- B MIG Flats Rajauri Garden, New Delhi (Near Tagore Garden Metro Station).

This center is managed by a Muscular Dystrophy afflict himself Sh. Virender Kalra, Senior Manager, Canara Bank, Rajauri Garden Branch, of New Delhi.

This center is devoted to changing the lives of people with Muscular Dystrophy and their caregivers. Services provided at “Rahat” Delhi include:

  • Free to and fro transportation from the home of the patient to the center.
  • Free counseling of the patients and their family members.
  • Free physiotherapy according to the needs of the patient.
  • Recreational activities like occasional picnics and fun trips.
  • Providing physical and emotional relief to family members.

Contributed to the framing of the disability policy of the Himachal Government

Taken up with the State government the project of awareness with the National Health Mission (NHM)

Has been a catalyst in bringing Muscular Dystrophy in 1995 Persons with disabilities law

Kept in touch with patients and families through zoom meetings

Participated in the neurology meetings of AIIMS and PGI

Been co-partners in organising two international conferences (2009 and 2014)

Connected with international research communities

Organised a national seminar bringing all the Indian organisations and scientists working in the field of Muscular Dystrophy

  • Registered for undertaking CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activities with Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India since September 2021.
  • Indian Association of Muscular Dystrophy is a registered organization with H.P. Societies Registration Act, 2006.
  • Indian Association of Muscular Dystrophy has also been registered under the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995.
  • Indian Association of Muscular Dystrophy has been granted tax exemption under section 80G of the Income Tax Act.
  • Registered with Niti Ayog (Registration Number: HP/2018/0182095).
  • Indian Association of Muscular Dystrophy has also obtained the FCRA clearance for foreign donations.
  • Registered with IDRF in the USA (This gives tax benefit to citizens of America upon donating for Indian Association of Muscular Dystrophy).
  • Indian Association of Muscular Dystrophy also has 12A registration certificate.
  • Registered as Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010.
