Governor HP appoints Vivek Agnihotri to raise awareness of Muscular Dystrophy in India

Vivek Agnihotri is the new ambassador for Muscular Dystrophy in India, announced in Shimla on February 22, 2024, highlighting efforts to raise awareness and improve treatments for muscular dystrophy.

Highly acclaimed director Vivek Agnihotri (The Tashkent Files, The Kashmir Files) has been announced as an ambassador to promote the cause of Muscular Dystrophy in India by Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla.

Shimla, February 22, 2024 – In a significant step to strengthen the fight against muscular dystrophy, renowned film director Vivek Agnihotri has been appointed as an ambassador for raising awareness of Muscular Dystrophy in India.

This announcement was made during a video conferencing session at Shimla Raj Bhavan under the leadership of Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla. Present alongside the governor were three Muscular Dystrophy warriors, Pratyush (Age 10 from Bihar), Kavya (Age 7 from Maharashtra) and Yogesh (Age 35 from Himachal Pradesh, completed MA English, MBA IT Finance and is currently working as a Senior Assistant in Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board).

Governor Shukla highlighted the state-of-the-art treatment methods at the Integrated Muscular Dystrophy Rehabilitation Center (IMDRC) – “MANAV MANDIR”, including physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, yoga, pranayama, rehabilitation. IMDRC is also heavily involved in promoting Muscular Dystrophy research and promoting awareness. Governor Shukla also mentioned the commendable services of the centre praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program. Governor Shukla expressed confidence in Agnihotri’s role in raising awareness of Muscular Dystrophy in India and congratulated the Indian Association of Muscular Dystrophy for their noble work.

Accepting the honour, Vivek Agnihotri expressed his gratitude and took an oath to actively promote the cause and awareness of Muscular Dystrophy in India alongside IMDRC Manav Mandir. The event saw contributions from various individuals associated with IAMD, including the organisation’s chairperson Uma Baldi and secretary Vipul Goyal, who extended heartfelt thanks to all participants.

The presence of Lady Governor Janki Shukla and the Governor’s Secretary Rajesh Sharma underscored the importance of community participation in addressing Muscular Dystrophy. Agnihotri’s role as an ambassador marks a significant step towards raising awareness regarding Muscular Dystrophy, aligning with the broader objective of enhancing their quality of life.
